Overview

Introduction
Messina Minerals is targeting zinc-lead-copper-silver-gold deposits in central Newfoundland, Canada. The region is known for its base metal potential and is home to the formerly producing world-class base metal deposits at Buchans and the new Duck Pond zinc-copper mine.

Infrastructure
Messina's properties are all located in central Newfoundland; an area with excellent infrastructure that allows cost-efficient exploration and which could facilitate mine development including:
  • an 18 MW hydroelectric generating facility within Messina's claims
  • an extensive network of logging haulage roads
  • nearby paved provincial highways 25 km to the west and 45 km to the east
  • a nearby base metal mine and 1,800 tpd capacity mill with zinc, lead, and copper recovery circuits at Duck Pond
  • skilled local labour with mining experience in three nearby communities, and throughout Newfoundland
  • no aboriginal land claims
  • "first world" Canadian legal jurisprudence and taxation system

Mineral Resources

Messina has mineral resources estimated for the massive sulphide mineralization at Boomerang, Domino, Hurricane and Tulks East B Zone (Tulks South project), Main Zone (Long Lake project) and Skidder (Skidder project). The classifications for each mineralized area are discussed in the section on Resources and summarized in each Project.

Exploration Objective

Ongoing exploration is aimed at discovering new zones of mineralization that increase Messina's established mineral resource base. Since the acquisition of the initial central Newfoundland project in 2003, Messina has successfully increased its mineral resources by acquisition or by discovery, as summarized in the table following.

Figure: Expansion of Messina's Mineral Resources (NI43-101 Compliant and Historic Estimates) Between 2003 and 2007. "TEB" refers to the Tulks East B Zone within the Tulks South Property. "LL Main" refers to the Main Zone within the Long Lake Property. "Boom-Domino" refers to the Boomerang and Domino resource areas within the Tulks South Property. "Skidder" refers to the Skidder prospect historical resource within the Skidder Property. Historic Estimates of Mineral Resources are not compliant with current standards and should not be relied upon. See disclosure and definitions in "Resources".

Future Exploration Plans

The objective of exploration drilling is to add substantive new base metal mineralization to grow the mineral resource base.

Economic assessments, environmental and engineering planning studies are also planned for the Boomerang mineral resource to assess the economic quality of the mineralization and to establish the engineering parameters and potential costs of its extraction.
